The noise and din of a modern metropolis is a source of constant stress for its residents. Doctors confidently declare that our ears are subjected to daily overload. On the street, in the office and even at home, a person does not have the opportunity to stay in silence.
World Health Organization has compiled a list that includes the noisiest cities in the world.
6. Paris
More than 7% of the city’s territory falls into the “black zone” with noise levels over 70 dB. This is two and a half times more than in London or Berlin. And in the zone of acoustic comfort with a maximum noise level of up to 55 dB, only 17% of the city area is assigned. Moreover, if in the morning the city is noisy due to traffic, then in the evenings in Paris crowds of tourists “buzz”, music plays and fountains murmur.
5. Warsaw
One of the cities with the longest traffic jams. In 2008, the authorities of the Polish capital developed a seven-year plan to combat street noise. New tram tracks are being actively laid in the city, which are much less noisy in comparison with traditional ones, as well as installing soundproof screens.
Nevertheless, Polish doctors say that the inhabitants of Warsaw have every reason to go to court to demand compensation for health damaged by noise.
4. Bratislava
The capital of Slovakia is located at the crossroads of highways - after all, the city is literally sandwiched between Hungary and Austria. Car traffic in the city does not subside around the clock.
In addition, tram lines crossing the city require replacing with quieter ones, as even residents of border Vienna villages hear the noise of Bratislava trams.
3. Nagasaki
The population of the city is only half a million people, but Nagasaki is a large port, as well as a shipbuilding center. The local airport and the abundance of cars, which are at least two in each family, also add to the noise. In addition, on the streets of the city sound advertising is not uncommon, which makes its own contribution to the general background.
2. Tokyo
The multi-tiered roads that permeate the city do not subside around the clock. No wonder the residents of the Japanese capital appreciate traditional parks - oases of peace in the city center. The passion for the Japanese with special capsules for relaxation is also indicative - for a nominal fee, you can stay in silence for a couple of hours.
1. New York
Residents the noisiest city in the world daily exposed to a noise load of 70 dB. Among the many sources of noise are eternal constructions and cars buzzing in traffic jams. At the same time, the rhythm of life in New York remains high even at night, not allowing silence to take hold of the metropolis.
The city’s authorities tried to make part of the Central Park a “zone of silence,” but several music groups suing concerts in the park sued the city hall at once.
