2018 Election: List of Russian Presidential Candidates

March 18, 2018 held the election of the President of Russia. The date when the head of state was elected for a six-year term.

The election campaign of candidates started in December, the budget spent a record 17.69 billion rubles on it, it follows from the decision of the CEC.

Due to the peculiarity of rounding the results, a discrepancy in the total amount of percent ± 1% is possible.

The official start of the election campaign began in December, after the publication of the resolution of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on the appointment of elections on the official website.

What did the newsletter look like?

At a meeting on February 8, the CEC approved the ballot in the 2018 election, as it looked, you can see below. It included 8 names of candidates in alphabetical order, as required by the Federal Law “On the Election of the President of the Russian Federation”.

Chronology of preparation and conduct of elections


Key dates in the election process:

  • December 15, 2017 - The Federation Council scheduled the election of the President of Russia for March 18, 2018
  • January 7 acceptance of documents from self-nominees has ended
  • January 12 acceptance of documents from political parties
  • January 2018 - the formation of polling stations
  • Until 6:00 p.m. January 31, 2018 - submission of voters' signatures to the CEC (300,000 for self-nominees, 100,000 for party candidates),
  • Until February 10 - the publication of the final list of candidates for the presidency of Russia in 2018, officially registered by the CEC.
  • February 2018 - formation of precinct election commissions, publication of the election program, its presentation to the CEC
  • February 19 - March 17 - election campaign in print media, radio and television
  • Until March 17 - the right to refuse to participate in elections, publication of poll results and forecasts of voting results
  • March 17, 2018 - "Day of Silence", the prohibition of any kind of campaigning
  • March 18, 2018 - election date, voting day
  • Until April 1, 2018 - publication of the results.
  • April 8, 2018 - the second round (if necessary).

Composition of the Central Election Commission (CEC)

The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation is a federal state body formed in accordance with the election legislation, organizing the conduct of elections and referenda in the Russian Federation, independent of other state authorities within its competence.

The seventh composition of the election commission will be in force from 2016 to 2021. It includes 15 permanent members.
